From the organization’s perspective, BYOD is an opportunity for employees to work from anywhere at any point of time using their own device. This ultimately makes employees more mobile, which will gradually increase their productivity. Considering the apparent advantages to both employers and staff there should be a stratospheric implementation of IOT and BYOD across all fields. However, recently in mid 2013 less than 10 percent of companies adopted BYOD programs. In the past two years, this figure has grown, but according to some reports, it is still lesser than 60 percent.
As a part of consumerization, BYOD encourages the employees to work on their personal devices. To access their corporate mail they can use Iphone 5 and to view text documents they can use Google Nexus 7. On the other hand IOT integrates all the devices and enables them to accumulate and exchange data. This ultimately increases productivity and diminishes costs, which will in turn increase the profitability of the organization. Through IOT devices of all types including industrialized machinery, cars and pipelines become smarter. This will open up the potential for them to interrelate with the internet.

The BYOD trend holds enormous potential to enable business agility, transform business and provide pioneering ways to interact with company partners and customers. The real key is to move toward BYOD in a holistic manner by responding to employee expectations and at the same time fulfilling the organization’s requirements for risk alleviation, conformity and security.
The main advantage of implementing BYOD approach is creating self sufficiency among employees, who own mobiles, tablets and laptops. These mobile devices used by the employees are more advanced than the computer systems deployed by the organizations. It is not much surprising that the adoption of large screen phones and I pads is changing the way people are working.
Advantages of BYOD over IOT
Some of the advantages of implementing the BYOD strategy are
- Cost savings
- Employee satisfaction
- Reduced spend on device maintenance and software licensing
- Productivity gains
- Happier employees to work faster with their own technology
The productivity levels of the employees will naturally increase if they can simply and securely access company information on their own device. When it is about cost savings there are a number of advantages, as the small and medium scale organizations will not need to spend on employee’s equipments.
An effective BYOD solution should be deployed to secure the device, not just the data. With this approach organizations need not worry about compromising security for usability.
After all, BYOD is all about helping the employees to work faster, better and be innovative. Nowadays, employees are comfortable using their own devices at their work place. They like to have the same experience at office that they have at home. Therefore, by providing employees what they want organizations will eventually gain.
Companies should treat this as an opportunity, which can yield both tangible and intangible benefits. BYOD should be implemented in a holistic manner for addressing employee expectations and at the same time ensure that the business requirements are met related to speed and agility.
Successful companies will take a practical approach to embrace and mold IOT and BYOD for their own competitive advantage. This will ultimately enable them to outperform the competition.
