Evolution of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has made tremendous progress in relatively less span of time and continually evolving to cater to ever changing business needs of global enterprises. Cloud is a technology innovation that significantly changed the way the enterprises run their business critical operations.

Cloud computing today is no more a new technology at initial stages, but it has emerged as a full-fledged business solution that revolutionizes the overall business critical processes, says Ravi Namboori, Director of Architecture at Equinix.

In the initial years cloud was viewed as computing utility that enhances flexibility, agility and economics of corporate IT. Enterprises preferred cloud as it enables them to use computing resources over internet eliminating the traditional way of owning hardware and software products in-house.

Cloud has quickly grabbed the attention of business owners over its counterpart in-house datacenters consume high investment capital and requires IT staff to manage infrastructure, says Ravi Varma Namboori a datacenter expert.

Computing-as-a-Service business model offered by cloud service providers has brought unlimited scalability at competitive prices. Companies gradually inclined towards CaaS model as they were paying only for the computing resources they actually used.

Enhanced business agility is also a prominent factor that has driven organizations towards cloud services, cloud has empowered business users respond quickly to market and technological changes. Enterprises leveraged the best from external cloud service providers to implement new applications which was faster and cost effective way when compared to assigning task to internal IT team.

Cloud has evolved as a major force today driving economy and technological innovation in every enterprise digital business journey. The role of corporate IT is now more exciting and challenging in the digital enterprise arena.

Cloud has become an enterprise norm today, but many of business owners are still not leveraging cloud to the optimum level. Enterprises need to realize that cloud gives them an edge to gain competitive advantage and leveraging cloud to the best enables digital transformation. Cloud has real power to transform the way the enterprises do their businesses and gives competitive advantage, adds Ravi Varma Namboori a Cisco evangelist.

Hybrid is the most emerging cloud model today that business owners are willing to rely on, enterprises are leveraging best from the hybrid technique that allows them to use public cloud for non-sensitive workloads and private cloud for sensitive workloads.

Most of the companies are using multiple private and public cloud providers, the real challenge lies in bringing all these different clouds in to well-functioning integrated architecture.

Enterprises should not forget that the network connectivity is the crucial aspect that plays key role in making cloud deployment successful. Mission critical workloads demands high quality connectivity to deliver performance and reliability.

Assessing security should be considered as regular ongoing practice that ensures the corporate data and systems are safeguarded efficiently. In any organization IT has greater responsibility to manage controls, policies and compliance factors.
